RTPI appoints RSK to produce climate impact action plan

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is pleased to announce that it has appointed RSK Environment Ltd to prepare a Climate Impact Assessment for the Institute.

RSK will also produce an ‘action plan’, outlining ways the RTPI can reduce its carbon footprint.

The announcement follows an open tender process inviting consultancies to tender to undertake an assessment of how the RTPI can mitigate its impact on climate and become more sustainable.

RSK is a multi-disciplinary environmental and engineering consultancy which provides world-leading and well-respected greenhouse gas accounting and reporting expertise. This forms part of a wide range of mitigation and adaptation services to optimise the climate resilience of their clients.

RSK Associate Director and Carbon Team Leader Dave Allen said:

“RSK is delighted to have the opportunity to support the RTPI’s strategic ambition to become a leading advocate of climate action through the delivery of its Corporate Strategy 2020-2030. Inherent in this, is our shared commitment to best practice with respect to climate change and sustainability.

“We’re looking forward to working with the RTPI to support them on this important journey from consultation and assessment, through benchmarking and consensus building, to the development of actions that will reduce their climate impact.”

Ian Tant MRTPI, RTPI Immediate Past President and Board Champion for climate action, said:

“With RSK’s expert help and input, I’m sure that the climate action plan for the RTPI will help cement the Institute’s position as a leading advocate for sustainable place-making through a clear commitment to tackling climate change. With the urgent need to address the climate crisis underpinning all aspects of the RTPI’s corporate strategy, I’m delighted that we’ll be working with RSK on this important piece of work.”

RSK will start work on the assessment phase of the project immediately with initial consultation and data collection taking place throughout June. Stakeholder workshops and action planning will take place in July and the project will conclude with the publication of the Action Plan summary in August 2020.

The climate impact assessment and action plan are among a range of measures related to climate change which the RTPI committed to in its Corporate Strategy 2020-2030, launched earlier this year.
