When you have passed your RTPI accredited degree and your employer agrees that you are ready you can apply to the RTPI to go through Gateway and take End Point Assessment.
To pass through the Gateway:
- You must be a Chartered Town Planner apprentice.
- You must have achieved English and Mathematics at level 2.
- You must have a fully RTPI accredited qualification.
- Your employer must confirm that you are ready to take the End Point Assessment.
- You must have documented at least 12 months’ (full-time equivalent) professional planning experience in the Reflective Journal.

To pass through the Gateway and be eligible to take the Chartered Town Planner Apprenticeship End Point Assessment, you must apply to the RTPI for End Point Assessment and to become a Licentiate member of the RTPI. The fee for your End Point Assessment including your Licentiate membership application will be paid from your apprenticeship funding by your training provider.

The first assessment method is the Professional Discussion and you must pass this before submitting your DA-APC written submission. You would usually submit your DA-APC written submission within 12 months of passing through Gateway.
To apply for Chartered membership through the DA-APC:
- You must be a Chartered Town Planner apprentice.
- You must be a current registered Licentiate of the RTPI.
- You must have a minimum of 2 years’ professional planning experience (full-time equivalent) whilst a Chartered Town Planner apprentice.
- You must successfully complete the Professional Discussion.
- You must have completed 1-2 case studies to demonstrate the APC competencies

You will not be able to take End Point Assessment and complete your apprenticeship until you have passed through Gateway. If you need more time before you are ready to apply for Gateway, you can discuss and agree this with your employer.
